Foreign Language Hymns

Singing hymns in your target language is a great way to learn! Foreign language hymnbooks are available from the Distribution Center and at lds.org. While many languages have a dedicated hymnbook, some of the less common ones have booklets of selected hymns and primary songs. You may also find that there is a Children’s Songbook available in your target language. Selected languages also have audio available on CD.

The following lists are hymns found in the current editions of LDS foreign language hymnals, but which cannot be found in the 1985 English hymnal. Singling these out is a quick way to find hymns unique to your target language, if there are any. (Unfortunately, some cultures did not have a tradition of singing hymns in Christian worship until we introduced the practice to our converts.) English titles in parentheses are accepted English titles of the hymn, but aren’t necessarily an accurate translation of the title in the original language. Creating this list would simply not have been possible without the tedious indexing of all LDS hymnals in all languages by Samuel Bradshaw and his associates at SingPraises.net.
